„THE GUITAR LAB” – International Competition

INFORMATION and RULES
Preliminary round
(online, videos submitted no later than September, 10th):
2 movements from one of the J. S. Bach Lute Suites and Zaira or Zobeide from Dan Dediu’s ‘Zzz… Three pieces for guitar, op. 166’ (available for ordering here: https://bit.ly/3rqy1MP ; a preview of the pieces is available on the same webpage)
Final round
(live at The National University of Music, Bucharest, October, 22nd):
- The chosen piece from the preliminary round and Zemrude, from the same suite, plus free choice program. Total time on stage must not exceed 25 minutes.
The pieces from both rounds should be played by heart, except the pieces from Dan Dediu’s ‘Zzz… Three pieces for guitar, op. 166’, which can be played also from the score.
The competition is open to all the guitarists born after 1st of January 1992.

PRIZES:
1st prize: 1000 euros; a shared concert at the 11th edition of ‘The Guitar Evenings International Festival’, Bucharest, November 2023; Savarez strings and accessories.
2nd prize: 700 euros; a shared concert at the 11th edition of ‘The Guitar Evenings International Festival’, Bucharest, November 2023; Savarez strings and accessories.
3rd prize: 500 euros; Savarez strings and accessories.
All prizes are subject to the Romanian tax regulations.
JURY: Johan Fostier (BEL), Andrea de Vitis (IT), Joao Carlos Victor (BR), Gustavo Costa (BR), Dan Dediu (RO), Catalin Stefanescu-Patrascu (RO), Costin Soare (RO).
Preliminary round (ONLINE)
The videos must be submitted no later than September, 10th, 11:59 PM (CET).
Videos must be unedited, in one stationary shot beginning to end for the entire program; the video recordings made by assembling are not allowed. The recording device should be positioned in front of the performer in such a way to make visible the guitar, the hands and the face of the performer. Please ensure adequate sound and lighting and be sure to film in landscape mode. Upload instructions will be provided upon completion of registration.
3 competitors will advance to the final round. All decisions by the jury are final.
Final round (LIVE)
The three most successful candidates will be invited to play LIVE at The National University of Music, Bucharest, October, 22nd , the program consisting of the chosen piece from the preliminary round and Zemrude, from the same suite, plus free choice program. Total time on stage must not exceed 25 minutes. The organizer will provide free accommodation (3 nights) for the finalists.
Judging
The result of the evaluation is expressed by points from 1 to 100, and it is determined by the average score (calculated to only two decimal digits) of the jury members, after excluding the highest and the lowest score. The teachers cannot give points to their own students. All decisions by the jury are final.
